Five counties realise 39% of the turnover in transport

The turnover achieved in 2019 by Romanian transport companies (those with CAEN code 4941) was 11.10 billion euros, representing 3.02% of the turnover of all the companies in Romania, and their profit was 661.70 million euros (2.28% of the total profit). There are 35,882 transport companies, representing 1.75% of the total number of companies in Romania, which have 146,943 employees, or 3.67% of the total number of employees in the country.

The counties with the highest turnovers in transport are Argeș (981.40 million euros, representing 6.44% of the total turnover of the companies in this county), Cluj (879.90/5.75%), Bucharest (822.60/0.63%), Bihor (820.20/9.80%), Timiș (604.60/3.77%), Arad (580.40/8.62%), Prahova (554.20/4.27%), Suceava (534.40/11.14%), Brașov (406.50/3.46%) and Sibiu (403.10 million euros, representing 4.51% of the total turnover of the companies in this county). Except for Bucharest, all the counties have a share of transport turnover from the total turnover higher than the national average of 3.02%, with the highest values in Suceava, Bihor and Arad and the lowest in Sibiu, Timiș and Brașov.

At the opposite pole there are Olt (79.8 million euros turnover, representing 2.10% of the turnover of all the firms in the county), Călărași (77.6/3.73%), Vrancea (72.70/3.55%), Mehedinți (66.70/9.12%), Teleorman (62.50/3.91%), Vaslui (60.80/3.77%), Caraș-Severin (57.10/3.90%), Ialomița (51.7/2.59%), Tulcea (39.30/1.99%) and Botoșani (28.5 million euros turnover of transport companies, representing 0.63% of the turnover of all the firms in the county). Six of these counties have a share of transport turnover above the national average of 3.02%, with the highest values in Mehedinți, Teleorman and Caraș-Severin, and the counties with the lowest share of transport turnover in total revenues are Olt, Tulcea and Botoșani.

Seven counties are in the Top 10 turnover in both transport and logistics: Arad, Bihor, Brașov, Bucharest, Cluj, Prahova and Timiș. The leading counties in transport, but which in logistics are not among the top 10, are Argeș, Suceava and Sibiu. And the counties that have a high turnover in logistics but are not in the Top 10 also in transport are Ilfov, Giurgiu and Constanța.

The main industries from the turnover point of view in these counties, and which could constitute customers for transport and logistics companies, are the retail trade of fuels (in Cluj, Bucharest, Bihor, Timiș, Arad, Giurgiu), construction of residential and non-residential buildings (Cluj, Prahova, Brașov, Sibiu, Giurgiu, Constanța), non-specialized wholesale trade of food, beverages and tobacco (Cluj, Bucharest, Bihor, Prahova, Brașov, Sibiu, Ilfov, Giurgiu, Constanța), manufacture of household appliances (Cluj, Bucharest), wholesale trade of pharmaceutical products (Bucharest, Brașov, Argeș, Ilfov), manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment (Bihor), manufacture of footwear (Bihor), manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment for motor vehicles and motor vehicles (Timiș, Arad, Prahova, Argeș, Sibiu), manufacture of other parts and accessories for motor vehicles and motor vehicles (Timiș, Arad, Brașov, Argeș, Sibiu), manufacture of tyres and air chambers, retreading and restoring tyres (Timiș), manufacture of other electrical and household wires and cables (Arad), retail trade of fresh fruit and vegetables (Prahova), manufacture of bearings, gears, gearboxes and mechanical transmission elements (Brașov), manufacture of road transport vehicles (Argeș), car sales (Ilfov), household appliances sales (Ilfov), cultivation of cereals, vegetables etc. (Giurgiu, Constanța), wholesale trade of cereals, seeds, feed and unprocessed tobacco (Constanța).
